Terry O’Reilly’s book Marketing Lessons from Under the Influence is like Marketing 101.It covers all important aspects of business, marketing and managing others during sales. It is also loaded with incredibly helpful tips from writing resumes to presenting big ideas. It covers all the important aspects of marketing which is in essence - advertisement.
The focus of the book is to help small and medium-sized businesses develop marketing strategies and
campaigns without the big budgets to employ advertising agents. He does this by dissecting the

The Author rightly points out irrespective of size of the business or mode of doing (online or traditional)
business, all have one thing in common and that he said is customers. This makes marketing the
heart of any business.

The part of the book that I really really enjoyed reading was when Author talked about using social
media as a selling platform and the importance of branding. This chapter was interesting because
we are using it everyday and I can relate to it easily. He humorously mentions that social media is
called social media, and not selling media. It is not a place to sell hard. Author highlights the
importance of maintaining our brand in everything we do with our Brand, including posts we put up
everyday, information we share, comments we put. Above all, consistency in our messaging and
having fun while doing it so it becomes our joy and not a task.

This book can benefit any type of business owners. I can’t emphasize enough why all of our business
partners should take time to read this at least once.

Finally, I learned so much from it. As I was reading through, it really helped me visualise where I
was going wrong and how to think about my business from a marketing perspective.
