Suja


Suja is Bhutanese salty tea which is simple to make and goes well with fried rice breakfast. It has significant meaning in Bhutanese culture which is evident from it being served at every important occasion with desi (sweet saffron rice). Tea leaves of suja has to be made from different tree leaves called Neshing Jurma (parasitic plant that cruel around big tree).

Ingredients:

  • Tea leaves
  • Butter
  • Salt

Methods:

  • Place handful of tea leaves  in pot and add 3 mugs of cold water. Let the mixture boil
  • Pour mixture through seep into a jar.
  • Add 20g of butter and pinch of salt
  • Blend the mixture well.
  • Serve it with morning breakfast or as evening tea with snack zaw (plain fried rice).
