The boy tied the
kera over Drukpa Kinley’s eyes and made sure that the blindfold was tight.
“How far away from the target am I?” asked
Drukpa Kinley.
“One hundred feet,” the boy guessed.
“Have you ever seen me practice?” Drukpa
Kinley asked.
“I have seen you hit the bull’s eye
repeatedly from either end of the ground,” the boy replied.
Drukpa Kinley
stringed his bow, took aim, and released his arrow. Following a fish-tailed
flight it drilled itself into the wall behind the target, several feet off the
target.
“I thought you were going to show off your
magical skills, what happened?” asked the boy.
Drukpa Kinley
smiled while taking off the blindfold. He placed his hands on the shoulders of
the boy and looked him deep in the eyes.
“My demonstration today is meant to
reinforce my advice on the importance of setting clearly defined goals in your
life and knowing precisely where you are going. What you saw just now confirms
the most important principle for anyone seeking to attain their goals and to
fulfil their purpose in life: You
will never be able to hit a target you cannot see.”
